Valley View School
Takes Students on Tour
Philip Spiva and Phil Bland, of Valley View School in Massachusetts,
took a group of their students on a tour of the Far East in
March.
Secret Harbor School's
Work Experience Training Program Taking Off
Sue Street, at Secret Harbor School on Cyprus Island, Washington
state, reports their Work Experience Training program (WET)
is really taking off with the addition of a couple of large
orders for planter boxes from Seattle. This program is the
best way for their boys to earn spending money. The boys have
to apply and be accepted to participate, and behavior must
be appropriate to even apply.
Pine Meadows School
Expanding to Year-Round Trips
David Hull, Executive Director of Pine Meadows School in northern
California, tells me his North American Wilderness Academy
is expanding to year round trips, doing trips throughout the
continent.
Three Springs Outdoor
Treatment Program Develops Specialized Groups
Three Springs Outdoor Treatment Program for Boys (Tennessee)
has added a new group which brings them up to 52 residents
as of late March. They are developing several specialized
groups. Already started are Alanon and sexual abuse groups,
and they are looking at others including a multicultural group
for African-Americans. The program has a ropes course, and
are building a new Gym and an additional classroom building.
Northstar Center Uses
Community as Major Resource
Northstar Center, in Bend, Oregon, uses the community as a
major resource for their program for 18+ year olds. Community
service is required, which breaks up self-centered patterns.
The program is just starting to place students as Interns
with local businesses. This is designed to give the students
some practical experience in possible career fields. The program
had 8 students as of mid-March, and is still growing.
Heritage School Starts
Summer School & Camp
Heritage School in Calistoga, CA, this summer will be running
summer school/camp for students who want to stay with the
program over the summer.
Heather Heath, M.A.
in Social Work, Started at Sorenson Ranch
Therapist Heather Heath, M.A. in Social Work, started last
Fall at Sorenson Ranch School in Koosharem, Utah.
Gayle Tilles, Cascade
School, Takes Students to Shakespeare Play
Gayle Tilles, Cascade School Associate Headmaster, led a group
of students in mid-March to Ashland, Oregon for a week of
Shakespeare plays and one-on-one talks with the actors.
Mission Mountain Plans
to Increase Licensing
Mission Mountain, in Montana, plans to increase their licensing
from 16 to 20 this summer. They are at 15 students as of Mid-March.
