a friend and collaborator with Woodbury Reports for many years.
She will be missed. The following is the obituary published
in the newspaper.
MARLYN KAY SEAMAN DOAN
Passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 5, 2005. Her
family and friends will miss her dearly. Marlyn was born in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 17, 1936, to Randall and
Gladys Seaman. Marlyn met and married Dr. Allen Doan in 1959
at Ohio Wesleyan University. They moved to Seattle in 1961
and were involved in the Seattle Kodiak Club and Mountaineers.
She raised three children and taught them to love the outdoors,
music, and animals. In her spare time, she was a freelance
writer and award-winning photographer for such magazines as
Outdoor Life and Backpacker. She also authored the book Starting
Small in the Wilderness. Her love of working with children
and education led her to start the company, Educational Resources
Inc. Her passion was to help children with their different
needs and drew great satisfaction on seeing them succeed.
Marlyn is survived by her husband, Dr, Allen Doan, son, David
Doan, daughter, Amy Doan Mansen (Kurt), daughter, Laura Wierleski
(Gary), and grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, Hanna, Benjamin,
Alise and Bjarn.
A memorial service and reception were held on Saturday, January
15th, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, NE 12th
Street at 94th Avenue NE, Medina, WA. In Lieu of flowers,
donations may be made in Marlyn's name to the Overlake Hospital
foundation, Cardiac Unit.
