To whom it may concern:,
I am writing this email in response to allegations of abuse
that have been made against The Whitmore Academy Boarding
School. It is upsetting that such allegations would be made
against such a unique, genuine, caring and positive program.
My daughter, XXXXX, has been at the Whitmore now for
over a year. During that time, I have
had weekly telephone conversations with her, and
am able to talk with Mark and Cheryl Sudweeks at any time.
In
addition, I know that I am allowed and encouraged to visit
whenever I wish to do so and as frequently as I want. XXXXX
is thankful that she is at The Whitmore and is thriving both
in emotional and physical health. She has never indicated
that there was any type of abuse or mistreatment occurring; her
comments are much to the contrary. She has never made any
request to me to leave The Whitmore during
these past 13 months, and she has had ample opportunity to
so do.
XXXXX has made tremendous progress while at The Whitmore,
and I strongly believe that this progress would have never
been made had there been any type of mistreatment or abuse.
She has matured, gained
much needed self-esteem, and has learned to love life and
people again. She has come so far from where she was when she arrived at
The Whitmore.
I have the utmost respect for and gratitude to Mark and
Cheryl Sudweeks and the program they run at The Whitmore.
I spent a long time searching for an appropriate program
for my daughter. I chose the Whitmore because it was the
only program that had a family type atmosphere, no reports
of abuse, and received high recommendations from parents
who have had or still had children at The Whitmore.
I strongly believe there are very few people in this world
who would take on the challenge the Sudweeks do every day
in helping teens and helping their families become families
again. It would be an injustice if this program would not
be permitted to continue.
The Whitmore has been the help XXXXX needed as a person,
and that we needed as a family to become a family again.
Mark and Cheryl Sudweeks are unique in that they truly care
about
the students as people, and helping them to be the best they
can be, and
the teens respond in such positive and healthy change. Abuse
in the program is unfathomable as such positive results would
never be so clear. It has been a gradual progression in XXXXX's
change because of the change being a true and lasting one,
NOT a "quick fix" brought on by drastic, negative
methods.
My strong support is with Mark and Cheryl, and The Whitmore.
I welcome any questions from DFCS.
Very sincerely,
Becky Loggins
