The staff and administration of The Élan School are
stunned at the sudden closure of the schools and programs
that operate under CEDU and The Brown Schools. We are concerned
that so many troubled youngsters are now left in crisis without
a structured, stable environment and qualified people to care
for them. We empathize with the dilemma and confusion this
unforeseen event must be causing so many parents: forcing
them to find an alternative program for their child.
The behavioral profile of some students who attended the
Brown Schools is similar to that of the student population
who attend Elan. Therefore, we wish to respectfully offer
our help and services to those youngsters who meet our admissions
criteria.
As you may already know, Elan is a private, Special Purpose,
boarding school. It is licensed by the Maine State Department
of Education for grades 7 through 12 and has rolling admissions.
The typical student at Elan is of at least average intelligence
and is manipulative, defiant, impulsive and easily frustrated.
They often are not working to their academic potential and
many have been diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, ODD, or bipolar disorder.
