I wanted to express our concern, on behalf of Aspen Education Group, about the sudden closing of the CEDU Schools on Friday. Even though we knew that Brown Schools has been in financial difficulty the past few years, we were as surprised and dismayed at the precipitous closing a few days ago as all of you were. Our company wants to assure all of you that we will be doing as much as we can to assist each of you, along with the families and students who have been displaced, as well as reaching out to the many fine staff who work at the CEDU Schools. Among other things, we have instructed our schools and programs to waive any registration fees, as well as to look at each situation individually in terms of clinical appropriateness, length of stay and financial resources. In addition, we have offered our assistance to the employees of the Brown Schools in terms of our open positions across the country.

Secondly, I wanted to reaffirm the financial strength and health of Aspen Education Group. We have been for years in a much stronger financial position than Brown Schools, and I wanted to alleviate any concerns that some people might have in this regard. Since I have been at Aspen from our very beginning 16 years ago at Mount Bachelor Academy, I know I can say this with confidence. Many of our programs are very full, but we have asked each program to see how they can assist each of you with your specific students. The residential programs that have some available space for high school age students include: Bromley Brook, Mount Bachelor Academy, Academy at Swift River, and Oakley School (depending upon gender), and for middle school students a few beds at New Leaf Academy in Oregon. In addition our outdoor programs may be a good short term placement as you take a look at other alternatives for your families, and we have asked our Outdoor Division to look at some creative ways to assist in this unfortunate situation. Academy of the Sierras, our unique program for overweight adolescents, has a strong therapeutic program and may be of value for a few of your students and families.

Lastly, I know that many of you have been in touch with our regional liaisons and other key personnel in Aspen. Please let us know what we can do to assist you in this very unfortunate situation, or feel free to call me directly.

Elliot
