The Center for Discovery is located in the city of Lakewood, California.
We are licensed by the State of California and are accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO).
The Discovery treatment program offers a full range of psychiatric and psychological
services including group and individual psychotherapy, conjoint family therapy, family groups, psychiatric interventions and psychological
testing. Post-discharge and continuing care meetings are provided to residents and families at no charge.
Discovery’s educational component draws the child into the challenge of the
academic process. Our goal is to provide the tools and the “know how” to each resident that they may become successful in the academic
arena. Our Director of Educational Services has substantial experience in both teaching and administrative aspects of education.
Several points normally requested by interested persons:
Our physician, Jennifer Heitkamp, M.D. is licensed and board certified in
child/adolescent psychiatry.
Pharmacological interventions are monitored by Dr. Heitkamp. Any physician
who wishes to follow a patient through the treatment experience may do so by attaining temporary privileges through our professional
staff organization.
Each resident is seen individually three times each week by his/her primary
therapist, and once in conjoint session with the resident’s family. Each family may attend multi-family groups twice weekly. When
an increased number of individual sessions is indicated, they are provided at no extra charge.
The Center for Discovery offers “step-down” levels of treatment as well as
the full residential program.
Supervision is provided on a twenty-four hour basis. No resident is ever
left alone.
Our organization has contracted with many managed care companies and accepts
most insurance and third party payers.
We have designed our system to respond to our customers in the best way possible,
that is, with flexibility, speedy response, and cost effectiveness. We offer the quality of care consistent with a hospital setting
at a cost normally found in a residential environment.
