SAGE SCHOOL ACQUIRES PROPERTY
Darrel McOmber, Director of Sage Schools, outside Bend, Oregon, 800-877-1922, announced their first summer program (SageWalk:The Outdoor
School) has been successfully concluded with four students staying over for the long term Sage School. They will move into the new
property they acquired just outside Sisters, Oregon, on October 1. This is the property just vacated by Sisters Academy who moved
last month to a facility outside Bend.
ST. PAUL’S PREP INTO NEW FACILITY
Lowell Andrews, Headmaster/CEO of St. Paul’s Academy in Phoenix, Arizona, 602- 956-9090, announced in August their move into new facilities
was complete. NEW DEVELOPMENTS AT YELLOWSTONE TREATMENT CENTERS Loren Soft, CEO for Yellowstone Treatment Centers in Billings, Montana,
406-656-3001, described several changes currently going on with his program. Last Spring, they were Accredited with Commendation by
the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. They also are adding a new 90-day intensive treatment model aiming
at helping conduct-disorder youth. The program “will address the basic attachment issues that youth with a primary diagnosis of conduct
disorder usually present.” YTC Clinical Supervisor Lyle Seavy observed, “In some ways it’s re-parenting. ...Where somewhere along
the way there’s been a de-attachment.” Loren Soft also expressed the “desire to see us provide a less expensive, less intensive track
for children and adolescents who do not need intensive medical/clinical services, but can benefit greatly from all the other aspects
of our program which we have developed over the past 40 years.” They also are settling in with the new managed care system “which
went into effect April 1, 1997 for all mental health services for children, adolescents, and adults.
SMALL BOARDING SCHOOL ASSOC. MEETING
It has been announced that the next annual meeting of the Small Boarding School Association will be March 26-28, 1998 at The Andrews
School in Willoughby, Ohio. Registration will start in January, and the hotel for the event will be the Clarion Hotel, 216-953-8000.
POSITION OPENING AT JOHN DEWEY ACADEMY
Tom Bratter, President of John Dewey Academy in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, 413- 528-9800, announced he is requesting resumes
for a Dean of Students. The position has been held by Carol Maxym, who announced her resignation recently. The John Dewey Academy
is a college preparatory, therapeutic high school. Bratter said, “Graduates attend colleges of quality, discipline problems are minimal,
and Carol is the first staff member to resign in five years.” “The Dean of Students does individual, group, and family counseling,
runs a weekly female and bi-monthly mother’s group. This dean will serve as a part-time, tri-director of admissions. A doctorate in
psychology is preferred. Housing is not available. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.” Send your resume to Tom
