May we introduce SOLTREKS, a new therapeutic adventure based program?

Located on the North Shore of Lake Superior, Minnesota, SOLTREKS offers a small, structured adventure based experience for teenagers and families who are in need of a timeout, redirection or transition. It provides an opportunity for personal growth and development while participating in either a customized One-on-One intervention or a Specialty Trek.

SOLTREKS was founded upon the need for a more individualized approach to adventure based education. It is an alternative to the traditional group size of adventure based programs as it offers a 1:1 or 3:1 ratio per experience.

The One-on-One interventions are for those teenagers experiencing difficulty at home, school or in the community, who lack motivation within a residential program, who hide within a group setting, or who have successfully completed a program, but are needing support during transition. This experience is unique, as there are no distractions from negative influences of peer pressure.

The Specialty Treks (ratio 3:1) are for those teenagers, siblings or families in need of a focused experience to address an emotional growth topic such as boundaries, relationships or transition. Adventure options including backpacking, ski touring, biking, sea kayaking and canoeing.

Lorri Hanna, M.A. is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and has been working with teenagers and their families for 15 years. As a program manager, supervisor, educator, counselor, trainer and wilderness instructor, she has successfully facilitated and contributed to the growth of several emotional growth and adventure based programs. Lorri is a passionate educator and is dedicated to bringing safety and value to others while engaging them in high quality experiences.

Doug Sabo, an Adventure Based Counselor, has encouraged and supported the personal growth of hundreds of teenagers and their families. He has guided more than 50 wilderness treks throughout the United States and Canada, ranging from 10 to 46 days. Doug has an exceptional ability to connect the experience with the student. He is most respected for his compassionate teaching style and his commitment to work with challenging students.

Both Lorri and Doug are certified American Red Cross Instructors, Wilderness First Responders and certified in CPR.

If you have a family who would benefit from our services, we encourage you to call us to inquire about One-on-One interventions and Specialty Treks.

SOLTREKS will have a table space at the information swap at the I.E.C.A. Conference this November. We look forward to seeing and greeting you there.
