DEVEREUX-MAPLETON
Tom Croke recently visited
Devereux Foundation's Mapleton Center, including
Mapleton Psychiatric Institute, and the Hedges. Its conventional
psychiatric services approach is not in the usual range reported
in this newsletter, but Tom reports two outstanding attributes
in his view. l.) Mapleton High School, on grounds, offers
a very high powered college preparatory curriculum, taking
math through calculus, a broad offering of languages, and
comparable advanced levels in other subjects. This seems rare
for a psychiatric center. 2.) It is often difficult to place
the emotionally fragile but well oriented student in an environment
not dominated by conduct disorder types. Mapleton/Hedges makes
this distinction well in its selection process, and is an
excellent choice for such a student.
