Starting in September, TREX,
Inc, is a 21-day transitional intervention program for adolescents in
need of immediate program adjustment. It is specifically designed to
assist educational consultants, families and specialty schools requiring
intervention during the admissions or re-evaluation process of long-term
placements.
Giving the increasing demand
for - and rapid growth of - specialty schools with personal growth and
development components, frequently a new student may have difficulty
adapting to the expectations and challenges of their environment. Our
program lends itself to extending the orientation process for these
‘hot spots’: appropriately-placed students in need of specialized attention
that will enable a better understanding of their school’s requirements
and opportunities. Our transitional intervention program also serves
as an introduction to basic curriculum procedures for students awaiting
admission into a specialty school.
TREX, Inc.’s three-week program
is year-round, and takes place in Central Oregon’s beautiful Ochoco
and Williamette National Forests. Our staff consists of professionally
trained and experienced counselors, educators, wilderness guides and
assistants. TREX, Inc. is a 21-day transitional intervention program
that utilizes the wilderness a medium for personal growth.
Gabriel and Anne Rivera, M.
A., are co-founders and directors of TREX, Inc. Gabriel Rivera has worked
as an outdoor experiential educator and counselor for a variety of educational
and recreational organizations during the past 17 years, serving as
wilderness director, counselor and teacher for the Mt. Bachelor Academy
in Central Oregon, and The Cascade School in Northern California. Anne
Rivera holds a masters degree in psychology and has worked in the fields
of counseling, education (public and private organizations) and personnel
administration. Recognizing the vital need for curriculum that supports
holistic education, the Riveras are committed to assisting in the promotion
of specialty schools that offer enhanced learning experiences to today’s
youth.
