The following was sent to
Woodbury Reports by the School Director.
"Prairie View Adolescent School
is a state accredited special purpose school for adolescents with severe
behavior or emotional problems. The school is located on the Prairie
View campus. The campus consists of a school, psychiatric hospital,
partial hospital, community mental health center, outpatient offices,
and other buildings that house ancillary services such as Industrial
Therapy, Art Therapy, and physical activities. It is located on 70 acres
on the edge of Newton, 20 minutes from Wichita, Kansas. Prairie View
is a nonprofit private organization founded in 1954.
Two important concepts under
gird the Prairie View Treatment philosophy. They are: (1) the concept
that every person is responsible for his or her own behavior, and (2)
the concept that a caring meaningful community can promote healing.
Treatment is always oriented toward return to the outside world and
regular schools, with better living and coping skills with a higher
likelihood of success."
