Two Harbors, MN - Soltreks northern Minnesota's home base has
come out of winter hibernation by launching a winter program establishing
their northern location as year round. Located in the heartland,
Soltreks will continue to bring heart in their delivery of the
therapeutic, logistic and family support they are best known for
in their wilderness program. Based out of a cabin near Ely, Minnesota,
students travel 3-5 days in this winter wonderland on backcountry
skis, pulling their gear in pulk sleds-a sled that distributes
the weight of their load, leaving them lighter on their feet.
Occasionally one of the directors Siberian Huskies will accompany
them. Students camp in tents with a heat source during travel
days, returning to the Northwoods cabin on a weekly basis for
clinical visits, resupplies and personal growth workshops.
Soltreks
has launched the Minnesota winter program with their expertise,
integrity, attention to safety systems and techniques that have
been proven to be safe, efficient and effective. Director of Program
Operations and co-Founder, Doug Sabo quotes a Norwegian proverb
"THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS BAD WEATHER…ONLY BAD CLOTHING."
Several recent graduates from the Minnesota winter program shared
their pride in their accomplishments by stating, "If I can
do this, I can do ANYTHING!" Students seeking independent
living and self care skills greatly benefit from this program
as they graduate with an empowering feeling that supports them
through transitions and challenges.
Founded in 1997, Soltreks mission is to guide individuals and
families toward reclaiming their personal power while discovering
their true potential. In addition to their customized and individualized
approach, their family support continues to drive Soltreks' success
as stated by parents of a former graduate, "You do what you
say you do."
Enrollments are accepted weekly. In addition to the Minnesota
year round program, Soltreks will continue to offer programs in
New Mexico from January-April. For more information call Lorri
