JIM GLAESER VP OF OPERATIONS AT PHOENIX OUTDOOR
Dr. Robert Hanna Departs as Executive Director
Phoenix Outdoor today named Jim Glaeser to the newly created
position of Vice President of Operations. Glaeser will direct
the company’s North Carolina operations and base camp, focusing
on positioning its systems and processes for growth. Glaeser’s
appointment is on a consulting basis through the end of the year
as the company engages in a search for a permanent operations
head. Phoenix’s wilderness treatment program provides comprehensive
crisis intervention and assessment for families with teenagers
ages 13-17.
“Jim is one of the most experienced executives in the wilderness
therapy industry and we are fortunate to have his support as we
further scale up our operations in North Carolina,” said Carolyn
Bradfield, CEO and founder of Phoenix Outdoor. “Phoenix had a
tremendous first summer season with excellent performance both
operationally and clinically. It is important for the company
to build on that success and position itself for growth. Jim will
focus on refining our internal systems and adding new elements
to the outdoor experience.” During its start up phase, Glaeser
helped the company through the licensing process and provided
assistance in designing Phoenix Outdoor’s programming.
“Phoenix Outdoor is raising the standards in the wilderness therapy
industry,” said Glaeser. “The company clearly recognizes the importance
of working with the entire family unit, seeing it as a critical
element to overall success. This is something that has not been
present in any other program. In addition, Phoenix’s unique integrated
base camp model offers tremendous options in program design. It
provides greater control, more safety for the students and opportunities
for extensive therapeutic interaction.”
A veteran of the wilderness therapy industry, Glaeser served
as a counselor and assistant director at SUWS Idaho. He took the
lead role in the start-up of SUWS of the Carolinas, as well as
at Adirondack Leadership Expeditions. Glaeser served as Executive
Director at both programs. He was also an active participant in
the opening of Lone Star Expeditions. He has most recently been
accepted as a provisional member of the Independent Educational
Consultants Association (IECA).
Phoenix Outdoor also announced today that Dr. Robert Hanna is
leaving his position as Executive Director to pursue other career
opportunities. Hanna was part of the start up team at Phoenix
and will retain an ownership position in the company. “Bob Hanna
has been instrumental in crafting the design of Phoenix Outdoor’s
curriculum and was a huge asset during the start up process,”
according to Carolyn Bradfield. “We wish him well in his new endeavors.”
