New Wilderness Programs Extend Aspen’s Services Further East

Cerritos, Calif., August 8, 2003 – Aspen Education Group, a leading provider of educational programs that promote academic and personal growth to youth and their families, recently opened Lone Star Expeditions in Texas, and Adirondack Leadership Expeditions in New York. The outdoor education programs help under-achieving teens realize their potential and strengthen family relationships. According to Sue Crowell, Sr. Vice President of Aspen’s Outdoor Education Division, “one of Aspen’s strategies is to locate services closer to regional population centers.”

Lone Star Expeditions is a short-term therapeutic intervention that combines traditional therapy in an outdoor setting that motivates students in exploring their character in a safe, but challenging environment. Located north of Houston, Lone Star is a licensed treatment program with a focus on assessment, intervention, and aftercare. As students progress through the program’s sophisticated level system, students experience success and develop healthy self-esteem. Lone Star services are conducted by master’s and doctorate level therapists who manage an individualized treatment plan, and weekly family therapy sessions.

Adirondack Leadership Expeditions is a character development program that promotes personal growth. The forested, mountain setting removes urban distractions and simplifies options to help students gain insight into their core values and accept responsibility for their choices. Adirondack’s nurturing approach helps students address personal issues, achieve success in a safe environment, and develop their leadership potential. Set in the beautiful Adirondack mountains near Saranac Lake, New York, the program offers individualized treatment plans, flexible lengths of stay, master's and doctorate level therapists, individual counseling, and a powerful family component.

Aspen Education Group headquartered in Cerritos, California, currently operates 42 programs in 10 states, including twelve residential schools, seven outdoor education programs, and four special education schools. Aspen employs over 1,400 employees nationwide and served more than 10,000 young people in 2002. Aspen offers "help for today and hope for tomorrow".
