(CERRITOS, CA – October 7, 2003) — Aspen Education Group today announced the acquisition of Explorations, Inc., a family of Montana-based programs that utilize imaginative outdoor, travel and living experiences to help positively change the lives of young people who are experiencing trouble at home or in school.

“The unique programming and home-like environment of Explorations perfectly complements the many programs already in place within the Aspen family,” said Aspen Chief Executive Officer Elliot Sainer. “We share the same goal of helping improve the quality of life for troubled youth, and we are excited about now having Explorations’ programs and well-known leadership team as part of Aspen.”

Since its founding in 1989, Explorations has helped hundreds of young people confront their innermost doubts, embark on journeys of self-exploration and begin to imagine the things they once thought were never in their grasp. They have achieved this success through a consortium of five programs designed to meet the distinct needs of students.

Aspen Education Group is the nation’s leader in providing educational opportunities that improve the quality of life for troubled children, teenagers and young adults and their families. Recognizing that every individual is different and challenged by different needs, Aspen has assembled a wide diversity of programs, settings and solutions so as to be able to uniquely match the youth’s needs with the right learning environment. Its 46 programs in 10 states range from long-term residential treatment to community-based outpatient services and include a variety of therapeutic interventions including boarding schools, special education day schools, outdoor therapy and wilderness intervention programs. While each Aspen program operates independently, participants in any of Aspen’s curriculum benefit from the experience and depth of understanding that comes from helping tens of thousands of youths over the past two decades.
