Today on The Woodbury Report, K4HD.com, hosts Lon Woodbury and Liz McGhee discussed the top news events of some of the highly recognized organizations in the private, parent choice school and program treatment modalities across the country.

The first interview was with Gil Hallows, chairman of the upcoming Wilderness Symposium to be held in Park City, UT at The Canyons resort on August 28-30, 2014. This year, the Symposium will feature key note speaker, Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, who coined the term, Nature Deficit Syndrome. Gil explained the symposium is open to all, especially those interested in outdoor therapy and how it is used as a healing tool in working with all ages, from as young as 10 years old to adults. This interactive, experiential Symposium will be attended by a large representation of field staff from across the US, in addition to program staff, directors and owners of these therapeutic programs. Our next interview was Lynn Thomas, co-founder and Executive Director of EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) who updated Lon and Liz on their upcoming workshop, EAGALA Business Development Workshop to be held, August 29-31, 2014 in Marion, NC. This specialized workshop is geared towards EAGALA members, will feature such topics as: How To Enhance Your EAGALA Model Business and Strategic Partnerships: The Foundation For Business Success And Team Dynamics. This rather new modality features horses who are very intuitive as the equine therapist. The workshop will be presented by Pat Wagner of OnTrack for Life, Lynn Thomas, EAGALA Executive Director and Mark Lytle, EAGALA trainer and involves classroom and arena time each day. And our final guest for the day was Mike Merchant, the president of NATSAP (National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs), with almost 200 members who are private placement programs for adolescents and their families. Mike shared with Lon and Liz about the Research Initiative that has been developed by his organization, in which evidence based programs (that are held to a set of standards) share their outcome research into a data base. "In doing this, we are telling the world we are very interested in research and outcomes, that's important. Mike explained. From a program view, you can track and refine your own programs, what works, what doesn't and use this data and research to create program improvements." www.natsap.org
