"Now more than ever, it is important for Vancouver parents to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them at the Vancouver Private school fair," says Andrew Stawicki of Our Kids Publications. Private schools are a popular alternative today more than ever. According to statistics from the Canadian Association of Independent schools, over the past decade, enrollment in independent schools has risen over 35%, from 30,023 to 40,551. By contrast, public school enrollment has increased less than a percentage point in the same period. In fact, most provinces' public school enrollment has declined. Our Kids has benefited from and helped that trend by educating parents about alternatives to public education. "In the past few years, we have expanded to a national publication that promotes and provides information about all Canadian private schools," says Andrew Stawicki, owner of Our Kids Publications, Ltd. "Our website and other media are sought out by people from all over the world searching for private schools and boarding schools in Albert and British Columbia. It makes very good sense for us to hold a Vancouver private school fair." The Vancouver Private School Fair will be held November 15, at the Empire Landmark Hotel. Two other school fairs will be held in October, in Oakville (October 5, at Oakville Conference Center) and in Toronto (Roy Thomson Hall, October 25). Fairs in Ontario are very popular with both schools and parents. Private school fairs are part of a trifecta of media offered by Our Kids, including a magazine published nationally once a year, distributed through the Globe And Mail along with a website that receives over 20,000 visits per month. Our Kids benefits parents searching for schools as well as the schools themselves. According to Murray Marran of West Island College, we're "very pleased with [Our Kids. We] have had direct admissions because of parents looking at this magazine." Over the years, thousands of parents have used Our Kids magazine, website and fairs to inform education decisions for their children. The fairs are overwhelmingly praised as "well-planned, well-organized, and well-presented." Advice presentations at the fair will include:
