From Strugglingteens.com New Perspectives Pendleton, Oregon Formerly called the Eastern Oregon Children's Multi-Treatment Center until 2005, Pendleton Academies is a therapeutic residential boarding school, therapeutic day school and treatment center for children and young adults ages 5-18 years old with severe and multiple emotional problems. These include anxiety disorders, bi-polar and depression disorders, pervasive developmental disorders or schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. In addition, they may display aggressiveness, sexual behavior, fire setting or have run away from home, with their needs exceeding their caregiver's resources. Pendleton Academies operates as a non-profit, 501(c) 3 corporation and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), and is educationally accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS). In addition, Pendleton is accredited and licensed by the State of Oregon Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services as a provider of psychiatric residential services and assessment services; State of Oregon Department of Human Services, Children, Adults and Families Division and the Oregon Department of Education. Therapy at Pendleton Academies includes individual, family, group, art and play therapies in addition to equine and animal assisted therapy. A unique aspect to the program at Pendleton is the majority of the children who attend live with trained host families who live in the community. Host families, who function as part of the child's treatment team, working with the therapist, teachers and clinical staff, go through 30 hours of initial training and then continue with monthly training sessions. Having normal experiences, like living with a family and practicing acceptable behavior while attending school at the Academy, help the children move back into their own families and communities.
