From Strugglingteens.com New Perspectives Tucson, Arizona Founded in 2006, In Balance Transitional Living is a sober living program for young men, ages 17-22, who have completed a therapeutic boarding school, inpatient facility or wilderness program or have a minimum of 60 days of recovery from their addiction. The average length of stay for a resident is 8-9 months. Patrick Barrasso, LCSW, is the owner and founder of In Balance Ranch, founded in 2004. In Balance Ranch is the parent program to In Balance Transitional Living. Overseeing the operations of In Balance Transitional Living is Tiffany Gallego, MSW, the Program Director and Therapist for the program. The program is a blend of traditional therapy and 12-Step recovery with residents having mandatory attendance of "90 meetings in 90 days". In addition, each resident meets with a therapist once a week and attends group therapy and outpatient treatment several times each week. Family therapy is conducted at least once per month via telephone or in person. In Balance Transitional Living is located near the University of Arizona and Pima Community College, and residents are encouraged to obtain their high school diploma, if needed, or attend college, and/or obtain employment. For some this is often the first experience to participate in "real life" sobriety. The staff is on site 24-hours-a-day to provide supervised study time, job-search assistance, resume writing and interviewing skills. The residents have access to a 24-hour workout facility with a weight room, cardio room, tennis courts, swimming pools and basketball and racquetball courts. For added recreation, hiking, biking, rock climbing and intramural leagues are available.
