BaMidbar Wilderness Therapy guides Jewish young adults (18-26) on therapeutic expeditions. BaMidbar's program utilizes the wilderness environment as a vehicle to promote therapeutic growth of students, in a process that is individualized for each student, and is guided and directed by a licensed mental health professional. BaMidbar's clinical intervention and wilderness experience are provided through a Jewish framework. BaMidbar's programming is guided by four core values: kavod, honor, dignity, and respect for ourselves and others; simcha, finding joyful Jewish meaning in every aspect of our lives; tzmicha ishit, accepting the challenges of personal transformation and growth; and kehillah, the power of an inclusive and supportive community. BaMidbar Wilderness Therapy is a program of the non-profit Ramah in the Rockies.
Primary Therapist
Position Type: Full-time, salaried Start Date: Open until filled Reports To: Clinical Director Location: Colorado
Position Purpose: The role of the Primary Therapist is to oversee clinical care of BaMidbar students, and provide individual, family, and group therapy. The Primary Therapist is responsible for client intake, treatment planning, case management, individual and group therapy, discharge summaries, and related administrative duties. Primary Therapists work with the field team to guide treatment interventions.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Care:
Oversee client intake and clinical care, and ensure physical and emotional safety of clients
Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions on a weekly basis in an outdoor setting
Create individualized master treatment plans for clients, and train wilderness field guides in implementation of treatment plans
Create a discharge summary of treatment including aftercare recommendations
Complete all clinical notes and documentation in a timely and efficient manner
Family and Transition Supports:
Facilitate weekly calls with parents, supporting their growth and development as their child completes the program
Provide consistent, clear communication to families, Educational Consultants, and other professionals
Work with community-based providers to ensure a warm transfer as students graduate from BaMidbar, and support in identifying community-based providers when necessary
Staff Training and Oversight:
Support field staff in understanding clinical modalities and broader clinical framework of program
Facilitate in-service trainings for program staff
Other Responsibilities:
Work with a dynamic, collaborative team to support the development of a young and growing program
Perform administrative duties as needed by the program
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Education:
Licensed (or able to obtain license by start date) in Colorado as a LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or Clinical Psychologist
More than two years working as a licensed therapist leading individual, family, and group therapy sessions
Clinical, case management, and group leadership experience
Experience working in outdoor behavioral healthcare preferred
Experience with crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and working with young adults and families in crisis
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of conceptual frameworks for adolescent and young adult development and health
Knowledge of Family System theories and the Family Preservation model
Knowledge of Substance Abuse theories and Relapse Prevention training
Knowledge of de-escalation skills, crisis intervention skills, communication skills, behavior management techniques, and life skills
Knowledge of a variety of school interventions and continuing care services
Knowledge of and understanding of the HIPAA and other federal confidentiality requirements
Ability to develop alliances with resistive/special needs young adults and families
Ability to provide clinically sound treatment services based on client needs and treatment plans
Ability to respond to a range of clientsf needs using differential diagnoses and treatment approaches
Ability to utilize de-escalation skills in a volatile situation and to provide appropriate crisis intervention services and to reach out for additional support in critical situations
Ability to maintain clinical records in timely compliance with agency policies and procedures
Ability to work collaboratively with other community agencies on behalf of clients and/or the agency
Ability to demonstrate understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of onefs training and discipline
Other Considerations:
The essential functions of this position require outdoor work in all weather conditions, including work in sub-zero temperatures
Employee will be expected to hike on uneven terrain, while carrying a backpack or other equipment weighing up to 60 pounds
A pre-employment background check will be required, including fingerprinting and FBI background check
Applicants must have a valid driverfs license, with an insurable driving record
COMPENSATION
Salary: Commensurate with experience Health Insurance: Employees must provide their own health insurance. BaMidbar agrees to reimburse up to 80% per month ($350 reimbursement maximum) with proper receipts / documentation of health coverage Retirement: Employees are welcome to contribute through pre-tax payroll deductions to a 403(b) retirement plan administered through the Joint Retirement Board for Conservative Judaism. LOCATION
BaMidbar Wilderness Therapy is based at Ramah in the Rockies, a 360-acre ranch nestled in the pristine Pike and San Isabel National Forests. Ramah in the Rockies is 90 minutes from Denver, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Primary therapists spend a minimum of two days per week in the field, including one overnight each week with the field group. Non-field work can take place either remotely or from the Ramah in the Rockies ranch.
