Call For Presenters - Wilderness Symposium
5th ANNUAL WILDERNESS SYMPOSIUM
September 7 - 9, 2007 - Naropa University, Boulder Colorado


Proposal Deadline: February 1, 2007


The Wilderness Therapy Symposium at Naropa University brings together a wide variety of professionals who share a love of the outdoors and integrate nature into their work. The Symposium's interactive, experiential workshops encourage collaboration between the fields of Adventure Therapy, Eco-psychology, and Clinical Psychology. Skills, knowledge, and ideas are shared openly between professionals, schools, and programs.

ALL WORKSHOPS MUST BE EXPERIENTIAL, AUDIENCE INCLUSIVE, AND PROVIDE SPECIFIC SKILLS THAT CAN BE APPLIED IN THE FIELD.


  • 1.5-Hour Sessions - These shorter presentations are a great opportunity to expose participants to various theories and ideas. Sessions are held in a classroom setting at Naropa University. 1.5 hour presenters receive free admission to the symposium.*


  • 3-Hour Sessions - These extended sessions are experiential workshops designed to provide clinical skills, wilderness skills, or other topics with audience participation. Sessions are held in classroom settings or on the lawn at Naropa University. 3-hour presenters receive $150 compensation and free admission to the symposium.*


  • 6-Hour Workshops - These are in-depth experiential workshops that take place in, outdoor, natural settings in and around Boulder, Colorado. Examples of previous workshops include climbing, primitive skills, outdoor therapeutic skills, process groups, rites and rituals, etc. Those who are selected to present these workshops will receive $400 compensation, up to $200 for room and board, and free admission to the symposium.*



Job and Networking Reception - Please note: wilderness programs are invited to set up a table for two hours at the Friday afternoon opening reception. This is FREE! Conference participants and presenters, students looking for employment, and other wilderness program staff members have an opportunity to network and share information.

* Please note that Naropa offers one free admission and one stipend per session or workshop. If there are multiple presenters, the stipend and free admission will be split.

To apply to become a presenter at the 5th Annual Wilderness Symposium, please provide all of the following information:


  • Length of presentation for which you are applying.

  • 50-word description of your topic/workshop.

  • List of skills that participants will gain through attendance of presentation.

  • List of materials and space requirements needed.

  • A 30 word personal bio.

  • Include your name, address, email address, phone number, and social security number (for contracting purposes) on a cover sheet accompanying your proposal.
