Academy At Canyon Creek is a new coed residential program scheduled to open on January 16, 2005 for students ages 13-17.5. The average stay is eight to ten months. The program is housed in a large 65,000 square foot facility that includes four cottages with a capacity of housing 32 students each. The program expects its licensing application to be approved by mid-December for an initial maximum of 64 students.
The student population will fall into the DSM IV criteria by admitting kids who are oppositional, chemical abusers, reactive attachment issues, some borderline features, depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD PTSD, and parent child conflict.
Canyon Creek has a four component focus that will include dietary/ nutrition, physical fitness, academics and treatment. There is a certified dietary manager and a certified dietician on staff with available consultations from an executive chef. The program is currently working with Heritage Youth Services to obtain Northwest Accreditation for their academic component. Clinical Director David Blackwell will oversee the treatment portion of the program and there will be a certified recreational therapist for the physical fitness component.
