Soltreks Service Learning
Visits Chelsea Morning Farm

Lorri Hanna, M.A., CTRS
President and Executive Director

September 29, 2008

Soltreks students recently participated in a service learning project with Chelsea Morning Farm, a program of the Silver Creek Institute in Two Harbors, MN. Silver Creek Institute is a working model of sustainable living and is a resource for individuals and communities, both urban and rural, who are committed to the holistic frameworks of sustainability. The service learning project provides an experience and opportunity to instill an awareness of the larger community and to connect students with the concept of the sustenance they receive from the greater world outside themselves.

The students shared:
We didn't have much experience with agriculture before today, but we think what Chelsea Morning Farm is doing is really great and benefits the environment and the people they provide produce for. It was empowering to get our hands in the soil and we're leaving here with more knowledge and appreciation for the world of small organic farms.

Soltreks, Inc. is an organizational member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, OBHIC, NATWC, and AEE and operates under special use permits with the United States Forest Service. For more information about Soltreks, Inc. please visit their website at
