It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the return of Emily Miranda, MSW, LCSW. Emily served as an additional primary therapist during the summer of 2014 and has graciously accepted a year round position as an adolescent female therapist at Open Sky Wilderness. Emily's vast experience and knowledge within the field of mental health, high regard and exhibition as a consummate professional, and her unyielding efforts in supporting families through the process of healing and change are but a few examples of the incredible qualities Emily Miranda exudes. We are honored and feel fortunate to have her back on our clinical team.

Some of you may already know Emily Miranda and are familiar with her work as a therapist. For those who may not have had an opportunity to connect with Emily over the years, our hope is to provide you with a glimpse of her background and invite you to reach out and learn more about her.

Emily Miranda is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and earned her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. Emily has worked in both wilderness therapy programs and residential treatment centers, and most recently has been working at the University of Utah's Counseling Center supporting students in their emotional and mental health.

Emily has worked with adolescents and young adults as a field guide, graduation coordinator, and therapist since 1999. Her areas of clinical expertise include trauma, disordered eating and behaviors, substance abuse/dependence, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, multicultural sensitivity, and LGBTQ affirmative therapy. Her approach to counseling is integrative, combining feminist multi-cultural values with an interpersonal emphasis, and focusing on the clinical relationship and mindfulness practices. She has also worked extensively as an instructor, training graduate level therapists.

The official start date for Emily Miranda, LCSW, has been set for May 25, 2015 and her email address will be miranda@openskywilderness.com

If you have questions or like to connect, please feel free to reach me or you may also reach out to Tracy Hopkins at 828-337-3692 tracy@openskywilderness.com.
