On August 7, 2004, more than 400 people, including actress Ali McGraw, gathered at Rancho Valmora in Valmora, NM, 505-425-6057, www.ranchovalmora.com, a Positive Peer Culture Treatment Center. The purpose was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the ranch, and to dedicate their new 39,000 sq. ft. academic building.
The ranch was founded as a tuberculosis treatment center in 1904, and became well known throughout the country for powerful healing. In 1994, Bill McKay bought the property and converted it into an adolescent treatment center. Moving into the parent choice sector over the last 10 years, Rancho Valmora has increased in numbers and reputation.
This celebration of a century of healing, coupled with the construction of this large modern building, is their next step in making a major commitment to the future. The new building includes a basketball court, classrooms, fully equipped arts room, weight room, staff offices, a stage and much more.
