Dr Lane Smith Joins Provo Canyon School

Lane Farr Smith, M.D., D.L.F.A.P.A.

Provo Canyon is pleased to announce that Lane Farr Smith, M.D., D.L.F.A.P.A., has been appointed as the new full-time Medical Director for all our campuses.

Dr. Smith comes to us as a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is also board certified in Psychiatry. Dr. Smith received his B.S. with high honors from the University of Utah, and then went on to receive his MD on a full fellowship from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He then completed a rotating internship at David Grant USAF hospital and was recognized as the Distinguished Graduate of his class at the USAF Primary School of Aerospace Medicine. Before returning to the University of Utah School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry to complete his psychiatric residency, Dr. Smith worked internationally in Turkey, and served at Malmstrom AFB, Montana for one year as the Deputy Hospital Commander and Chief of Aerospace Medicine.

For many years after becoming a psychiatrist, Dr. Smith was in private practice working with adolescents and adults. He has held a variety of professional positions including, President of the Utah Psychiatric Association, Clinical Assistant for both the departments of Psychiatry and Family Practice at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Associate Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit for one of Intermountain Healthcare's leading hospitals. More recently, he served as the Associate Medical Director of the Magellan Sandy Behavioral Health Care Management Center, and comes to Provo Canyon School after serving as the Medical Director for the Aetna Behavioral Health Center in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Smith brings a wealth of knowledge to our campus with a dynamic and creative energy to match. Dr. Smith is committed to focusing on providing quality training for the staff and therapists at Provo Canyon as well as continuing to contribute his insight and expertise to our students and the therapeutic community. We are very excited to have him as part of our school!
