CanAdventure Education is a residential wilderness program designed to engage young people in education, cultural awareness, skill development and personal growth. CanAdventure takes a step beyond teaching leadership and teamwork, it offers an experiential curriculum to educates campers through hands-on learning and wilderness expeditions on Vancouver Island, including the Broken Islands, Cape Scott, Carmanah Valley, Clayoquot Sound, the Discovery Islands, Johnstone Strait, Nootka Island, and Strathcona Provincial Park. The five-week program provides a non-clinical environment specifically tailored to the needs of youth ages 15-19 who are struggling with negative behaviors.
The academic curriculum is built on a series of hands-on experiential wilderness activities that meet provincially-dictated learning outcomes in their respective areas while bringing real-world relevance to subject material with a hands-on learning experience on North American and First Nations history, including earth sciences and environmental studies. At Can Adventure, the “experiential academic curriculum, combined with a holistic approach to cultural awareness, skill development, and personal growth, provides an unsurpassed opportunity for youth to learn and develop in a dynamic educational environment.”
Programs available at CanAdventure include, The French Immersion Program where all lessons, activities and expeditions are conducted solely in French; the Leaders-In-Training Program for developing eco-tourism professionals; and the three-week Summer Camp Program. By nature, adventure activities promote physical fitness and basic proficiency in trip planning, navigation, camp set-up / takedown, cooking, and other technical areas.
