In Balance Ranch Academy is a therapeutic recovery program for young men, ages 13-17, based on the 12-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and 'research-based relapse prevention models.' Students who enter In Balance have issues with alcohol and/or drug use, are unmotivated and underachieving in school and fail to recognize their own problems. Generally, there is conflict in the family and the boys are angry or isolated, and many display risky behaviors or choose negative peer relationships. Most students at In Balance come from other treatment settings such as wilderness, other residential placements or outpatient clinics. Typically, the boys need help but deny, resist or reject it.

The In Balance program consists of several components to promote whole person healing. In Balance provides a 'comprehensive, integrated 12-step based recovery program', individual, family and group counseling, family education and support, experiential learning, equine assisted therapy, challenge courses, leadership and motivational training, wilderness success programs and "Recovery Through Service" projects. Family workshops occur three times per year.

The academic program offers, an 'individualized academic program designed to ensure success,' college prep courses, SAT/ACT preparation, and college application counseling and assistance. Upon enrollment, the academic director works with the student and family to develop a 'detailed education plan.' Students can continue current school courses or take an accelerated course load to help them catch up in school.

At In Balance, the primary guiding principle is 'recovery and continued success' through therapeutic services. In Balance is a family owned and operated business, consistent with the theme of 'supporting each other in the family.' The treatment team and staff have helped families with recovery for over seven years.
