Letters from Readers

Empowered Parent
(Letter of Gratitude)

May 11, 1999

Dear Lon,

I was given your web address by a parent hoping to entice me into the WWASP group. Their methodology does not appeal to me at all, from what I have read, but I spent untold hours reading your site and related sites, and finally indirectly found a program I felt comfortable sending my son to.

Two weeks ago we picked our son up from SageWalk in Bend, Oregon. While any program could probably use fine tuning, I must say that the staff and the program took my belligerent, drugged out, uncontrollable son, and sent me back a young man who reasons and discusses, and who may now win back the trust he formerly destroyed.

I think I spoke with you at some point, I’m not sure because I did so much research.

Anyway, your website “empowered” me as a parent, gave me options no one locally had ever mentioned (this includes school counselors, private psychologists, truancy prevention counselors, etc.). Whether the miraculous changes my son made can sustain him through High School remains to be seen. Nevertheless, I will be forever grateful to you for giving me the tools to take action, when I feared I must remain helpless as my son, and our home’s emotional climate were being destroyed.

Thank you,
(A parent)
Gainesville, Florida
