New Perspectives - Feb, 1998 Issue #50

PACIFIC OPTIONS
Seattle, Washington
Patti Quinn
206-623-9088

Pacific Options is “a private referral source for concerned friends and family of young persons at risk for drug and alcohol problems.” They maintain “an extensive database of up-to-date information about counselors, treatment programs, and extended care recovery choices specifically created for adolescents and young adults.” This includes local, regional and national resources, and “evaluations based on personal visits by Pacific Options.”

“The first hand knowledge of these individuals and programs is the most valuable aspect of our services.” They are not a counseling service nor a treatment program. The main objective is to “provide critical options and information needed for the decision-making process.”

Families will leave the initial consultation with a number of referrals, “... most often starting with a referral for a private, confidential assessment with a professional skilled in the area of adolescent drug and alcohol use.” The final decisions are to be made “by the family of the adolescent and/or the adolescent him or herself.”
