Dr. Fitzhugh to
Lead King George School

(April 21, 2004) Sutton, VT – Karen E. Fitzhugh, Ph.D.
has been appointed the head of school for King George School,
an emotional growth boarding school located in Sutton,
Vermont.
“Karen’s extensive experience as an administrator and supervisor,
combined with her clinical background made her the ideal
candidate to run King George School. When we learned that
she was a professional ballet dancer and an accomplished
vocalist, we knew that we wanted her to run King George School
which uses visual and performing arts as a vehicle for personal
expression and creativity,” explained Dr. George Condas,
vice president of California and Vermont operations for CEDU
Education.
“Our youth today and their families face enormous challenges,”
Fitzhugh said. “I’m truly excited to be joining this company
and becoming a part of the important work they do. I look
forward to relocating to Vermont in May.”
Most recently, Fitzhugh was the executive director of Girls
Haven, Inc. in Beaumont, Texas, where she designed and founded
The Ehrhart School of Fine Arts and Athletics, a Texas Charter
School. Fitzhugh has spent many years in both clinical and
administrative roles in the behavioral healthcare field,
including hospital administrator, regional director and vice
president for charter hospitals, mental health management
and day treatment. Additionally, she has a lengthy career
as a mental health advocate, and has served at both the state
and national level in advocacy movements for funding for
services for the mentally ill.
Nationally recognized as a trainer and speaker on issues
related to clinical treatment models, strategic planning,
and adolescent underachievement. Fitzhugh holds a doctorate
in educational psychology/ special education from the University
of California, Riverside, a M.A. in psychology from University
of California, Los Angeles, and a B.A. in psychology from
the University of California, Riverside.
The King George School works with high school aged students
who are bright and creative but are having difficulty fitting
in at school and with peers and are struggling within their
family. At King George School, students learn to tap their
creativity, identify their inner passions, and become life-long
