Skyland Trail, a nationally recognized nonprofit treatment organization for adults with mental illness, is pleased to welcome Phoebe Whisnant as the process art therapist.

In her new role, Whisnant will facilitate both individual and group sessions. During these sessions, clients will have the opportunity to use materials to express their inner feelings, memories and beliefs through art. This form of art helps clients improve their insight and gain greater self-awareness.

"Throughout its history, the Art Therapy program at Skyland Trail has been a valuable resource for clients to grow in their recovery using creative strengths, artistic exploration and engagement while relying less on verbal skills/interaction," Chris Cline, vice president of clinical services remarks. "We are so fortunate to have Phoebe Whisnant join our Adjunctive Therapies team to continue building on this legacy Phoebe has a wealth of experience facilitating art therapy and working in a complex clinical setting, and we are looking forward to her impact on our community."

Whisnant is a registered art therapist and member of the American Art Therapy Association and the Georgia Art Therapy Association. She received a B.A. in art from Winthrop University and an M.A. in counseling psychology: art therapy from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. Previously, she worked as an art therapist at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. In addition to her new role at Skyland Trail, Whisnant is affiliated with Shepherd Center and leads Studio E, an art therapy support group sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia.

Art therapy is part of our adjunctive therapies program at Skyland Trail. It is acclaimed as a breakthrough in engaging clients in recovery.
